Critical Mass This Friday!
by members of the Hero HouseHere’s a video from WWAY of a Critical Mass ride last spring.
Come out this Friday (March 27th) for Wilmington’s first Critical Mass of Spring 2009! The sun stays out later now, so no worries about getting pulled over by the cops for not having lights!
Join Critical Mass on MySpace.
Critical Mass is a worldwide movement to promote the use of bicycles as a viable means of transportation. It has arisen in response to what many call the “car-culture:” an overdependence on the private automobile. It is, more than anything else, a reclamation of space, a demonstration to show that the city belongs to people and not machines. We’re not protesting, we’re CELEBRATING our vision of a preferable alternative mode of transportation in the city of Wilmington.
UNCWECO.COM Action Alert
by lynnTake 2 minutes to save our planet
Congress is expected to to vote on the 2010 budget this week. President Obama has promised over $600 billion in revenue from putting a cap on global warming pollution – requiring polluters to pay for their emissions to our atmosphere.
The OIL & COAL companies want to block this vote on global warming solutions. We must stop them from blocking this vote.
On Monday, March 23rd, we need you to call Rep. Mike McIntyre and ask for him to vote yes to capping global warming emissions. McIntyre is a swing vote on climate issues. Your call will make the difference!
Attached is a word doc with all the info you need. We need to make at least 30 calls to Rep. McIntyre and 30 calls to Senator Hagan. It is vital to know how these calls go. Please email David (davidjpinsky@gmail.com) with who you called.
Stop Titan needs your help!
On Tuesday, March 24, they are taking a bus up to Raleigh to attend Clean Water Lobby Day. The group is meeting with state representatives and demanding that they kick Titan Cement out of town! This is our best shot a Stopping Titan. Join us and make history!
Bus tickets are only $10 for students/youths. Our goal is to fill at least one bus and if needed fill a second bus. If the seat cost is prohibitive let us know and we will try and help with the cost for your participation. Time is critical so please reserve your spot ASAP with Mike Giles, NCCF Cape Fear Coastkeeper at (910)-790-3275 or capefearcoastkeeper@nccoast.org.
