Wilmington’s Really Really Free Market (RRFM) is held on the first Sunday of each month from Noon to 2pm at the Community Action Center located at 317 Castle St (on the corner of 4th st). The RRFM is a temporary market formed to counteract capitalism by building a community based on sharing resources and services. Bring what you don’t need and take what you want! Share a skill: haircuts, bike repair, screen printing, music, etc.
Since we can’t meet at the Action Center this month, we’re going to switch things up and meet at:
109 Church St, downtown
Wednesday, April 8th
7:00pm
We’ll mostly be planning for the Hero Fest Fundraiser.
If you have other projects you’d like to get the word out about or have other people get involved with, please come to let us know about your projects.
Don’t forget to check out the forums. This is a great way to let everyone know your thoughts and ideas if you can’t make it to the meeting.
Here’s a video from WWAY of a Critical Mass ride last spring.
Come out this Friday (March 27th) for Wilmington’s first Critical Mass of Spring 2009! The sun stays out later now, so no worries about getting pulled over by the cops for not having lights!
Critical Mass is a worldwide movement to promote the use of bicycles as a viable means of transportation. It has arisen in response to what many call the “car-culture:” an overdependence on the private automobile. It is, more than anything else, a reclamation of space, a demonstration to show that the city belongs to people and not machines. We’re not protesting, we’re CELEBRATING our vision of a preferable alternative mode of transportation in the city of Wilmington.
Wednesday, March 11th 2009 at 7:00pm @ the Community Action Center (317 Castle St)
Please attend this meeting if you are interested in Hero Fest happening this year.
We will be using Meetup.com to discuss things online. I’ll try to cross post things onto the blog, but I think we can have a more lively discussion on Meetup. So check that out if you haven’t already: http://www.meetup.com/seacc-ilm/messages/boards/forum/983350
For anyone interested in cultivating a green thumb, I have started putting together plans for the community garden in the space next to the CAC. I have a draft proposal written up and I would appreciate any and all feedback. The next step is to get soil samples analyzed and I am working on that. I have also reached out to some resources in town for supplies/ideas. My tentative timeline is to have the ground ready to go and the core volunteer crew set up by the end of February. Everything to date will be covered at the next BYOH meeting, so anyone interested can come to that meeting, or email me at kathryn.sisler@gmail.com.
When: Wednesday January 14th @ 7:00pm Where: Community Action Center (317 Castle St, Wilmington North Carolina)
For those of you who have never been to a meeting before and are wondering what happens at them, we mostly discuss ways that we can make the Really Really Free Market & Food Not Bombs better from what we learn each month.
If you have some ideas of other projects that you would like to see happen in Wilmington, please come to share your ideas! We are all about making Wilmington an ideal progressive/radical community.
We also need lots of help in the outreach department. So if you have access to a photo-copier, please help out by making copies of flyers and distributing them. We’d like to get more UNCW and CFCC students involved, as well as everyone else in the Wilmington area!
Think about the things you are good at doing and how they can be a strength to Be Yr Own Hero.
